Happy 15th Birthday, Ian

Dear Ian,

On your 15th birthday, I couldn't resist looking up this picture of me holding you as just a tiny boy in Haiti. How is it possible that you've grown so quickly into a young man? What a joy it is to be your parents and walk through life beside you. 


We know that this year in particular is such a highlight for you as you enjoy making friends at school stateside. We tease you about your "posse" and you take it all in good-humored stride. We chuckle at how you exit the van at lightning speed each morning and hurry to find your peers. And we're proud of you for digging into your studies even if that part of school is not exactly your favorite!


We've had some interesting conversations this year, about friendships and choices and all the drama that middle school can entail. With your million-watt smile, easy laughter and fun-loving spirit, others are quickly drawn to you. This is both a gift and a responsibility to lead with integrity, wisdom and purity (which can sound like awfully big words when you're in 8th grade.) Know that Daddy and I love you and are praying for you to become the man of God you were created to be, and to discover all the abilities and talents He has placed inside you to be used for your good and His glory.

You are a blessing to our family, Ian David! Happy 15th Birthday!
