Happy 8th Birthday to our beautiful daughter, Isabel.
This is our child whose birthday present is always a challenge to choose. She's not into toys or "stuff" - she is much more into observing people and living life. As I write this, she and Pedro are enjoying a Daddy/daughter breakfast date and some shopping at our local grocery superstore. According to the latest report, she is picking out ... mechanical pencils ... as a birthday gift. :)
We do have another surprise in store for her, which is coming in Mom-Mom's suitcase in another month or so. The one area of interest in which Isabel has never wavered is that of being a doctor or therapist someday. And did you know that you can buy real medical instruments on Ebay?? I didn't until I had some great fun picking out a purple stethoscope and purple blood pressure cuff and some other neat items for our purple-loving birthday girl! I can't wait to see what she thinks of it all.
Perhaps the biggest compliment we can pay to Isabel is what Pedro said of her last night. She had stepped outside to buy bread with Daddy but decided instead to strike up a conversation with our neighbor on the other side. She chattered away the entire time he was making his purchase and even after Pedro had already returned inside. "I think Isabel is going to be our little evangelist," he remarked with a chuckle. And sure enough, Isabel does know how to be a friend to people of every shape and size. She is full of compassion and curiosity.
Truly, she is a "gift."
