On the 27th of November we held our final activity for this year's matrimonios ministry. The married couples were invited to a year-end banquet and were encouraged to bring friends as well. As a result it was exciting to have five new couples attend a matrimonios event for the very first time!
The round tables purchased earlier this year have been such an asset for these types of events. With some pretty tablecloths and a bit of Christmas decor, our meeting room was transformed into a warm environment for conversation and sharing with one another. In addition to eating a great meal, we also watched the film entitled "A Vow to Cherish." For most it was the first time seeing this story of commitment on the part of a Christian husband whose wife succumbed to early onset Alzheimer's. As a conclusion to this year's study of the love languages and the challenge to learn to "speak" our spouse's language, it was a well-timed reminder of the importance of sacrifice and faithfulness.
And speaking of faithfulness, Maria and Nina are two sweet and faithful ladies from church who prepared the delicious meal of salads, rice and tender beef. They truly love to serve and it is a blessing to have such wonderful cooks in our midst.
Throughout the evening Pedro and I had the opportunity to converse with Omar and Claudia, a couple who began attending our church early this year. This ministry has been such a joy for us as we observe how it strengthens the bonds between married couples and provides a monthly opportunity for time set aside just to be together. We praise God for all He has done in this year 2010, and look forward to what He has in store for this ministry next!
