Irony

(Updated to add: Please read the first comment below this post, from missionaries serving in southern Chile. I think it pretty much proves my point!)

The girls have a class entitled "Religion" in their Chilean school. From the first, we were assured by the school that it wasn't really religion but rather morals and values. Mostly the girls have come home with fluffy notes on appreciating the world around them and learning to love themselves more (believe me, this is not something they need to be taught - it is inborn.)

I suppose we shouldn't have been too surprised with the latest religion report from Eva yesterday. Apparently they watched a video about Jesus but since there was some extra time, the teacher popped in Ice Age 3. Now if you're anything like me, you are probably thinking that Eva got her numbers mixed up because Ice Age 3 still hasn't come out in dvd. Only she was absolutely positive because this is the one with dinosaurs in it, and as it turns out she's right.

Um, yeah. That's called piracy, and it's very common in Chile. We actually know of a guy in Santiago who attends church, presumably loves the Lord, yet sees nothing wrong with sending his sons out to sell dvd's of the latest and greatest still showing in theaters.

So the idea that a pirated movie would be shown in a school classroom is not that far-fetched, I guess. But being that it was shown in religion class ... well, as Pedro said:

The irony is not lost on me.

:) :)

Tomorrow "Fuerza G" will be showing at the kids school. It is currently "un estreno" en el cine. Go figure!

Same issues here too with believers seeing no problems with pirating movies, music, Apps etc. Most frustrating to get in discussions on those issues.
