One unexpected surprise at the party today was Isabel's being asked to step in as "queen" candidate for her team (the white team.) I think it was in part due to her wearing all white and also because her therapist knew she would be up for the challenge. When her team won at the end of the event, Isabel was crowned queen and had to sit with "that boy" she "didn't even know." Somehow as she talked about and relived the experience over the course of the afternoon, "that boy" turned into "the king" that she "couldn't stop thinking about!" (Yikes ... I'm not ready for this stuff, especially from my seven-year old!)
There was face painting for the kids, and most of the little girls got dolled up with eye shadow and sparkles and lipstick. I'm a firm believer that every little girl needs times when she feels like a princess, and in a setting such as this one where so many are confined to wheelchairs it is even more bittersweet to see a child go from "pretty to princess." One young girl in particular has such severe special needs that she was completely unresponsive as she sat strapped in her wheelchair, eyes closed and mouth gaping, while one of the volunteers tenderly applied the makeup. It is in moments like these that I am reminded once again how precious every life is.

What a great opportunity for Isabel! Looks like she had a lot of fun. Probably being in a smaller community like Iquique affords her an even more intimate group of people to work with in the Teleton. I'm so glad you have this for her!
