Today our church enjoyed its own celebration of Chilean independence day after the morning service. Unfortunately Owen, Isabel and I were unable to attend because both of the kids were sick today. But thanks to Daddy, we were able to enjoy the fun vicariously through pictures! (And nice Daddy that he is, he took the time to bring home our empanadas at lunchtime as well.)
Some of the typical games that Chileans enjoy this time of year are familiar to us: the three-legged race; the sack race; pin the tail on the donkey. Chasing a greased pig and climbing a greased pole are traditional activities as well, but they didn't try them at church today! :)
Recently I found a website that lists many of the typical Chilean games of the season here. I also enjoyed a video I ran across today of someone playing "emboque." You can see from the first picture below that a couple of our men tried their hand at it today, although I don't know if they were as successful as the guy who made the video!
It's a fun time of year here in Chile, and I'm thankful for a church family that can worship together as well as laugh and play together. This kind of fellowship is very sweet.
