Artists in Residence

Lately the kids have spent a lot of time doing "art" - meaning that they search the house for odds and ends of empty boxes and sponges and ribbons, etc. that they can each use to create their "masterpiece." Of course, this coincides with their having watched several episodes of Mr. Maker, who for better or worse never fails to inspire! :)

One day their "masterpiece" was horses created out of long rectangular boxes, decorated with wrapping paper and paint:

Another day it was robots created from miscellaneous boxes and sponges, taped or glued together and decorated with plenty of paint (so much paint, that when I went to check on their project I stepped in a puddle of red and was not a happy camper!) For the most part, I do enjoy listening to them giggle and share ideas while doing art together. It is definitely an improvement over sitting in front of the television, and it encourages imagination and camaraderie while also giving Mommy some time to herself. What more could I ask?? Well, maybe just that they would become as excited about cleaning as creating ... :)

I love this post. You are a great mommie for stimulating their creativity and avoiding the boob tube. Keep up the good work, sweetheart. I love you. You are doing a great job with my grandkids.
