We just returned from dropping off our annual Christmas cookies to our neighbors. I have to give a shout out to my sister Jenn, who offered to share some of the kinds she made with me so that my neighbors could have a little more variety in their cookie tins this year ... thanks, Jenn!
Christmas cookies for the neighbors is a tradition handed down from my mom, and they've always been a special hit here where our "galletas gringas" are so different from Chilean cookies. This year we included either a Magdalena dvd or a Spanish copy of Josh McDowell's More Than a Carpenter, and we pray they carry the gospel message into our neighbors' homes in a significant way.
Most of the time, we are invited into our neighbors' home for coffee or soda and today was no exception. First we visited with our Colombian neighbors and had a cup of hot, sweet Colombian coffee while swapping stories of kids and talking about our upcoming move. Then we visited our friend across the street, a single lady who loves the kids and had presents waiting for them when they arrived. That made their day! We had a great time talking with her for awhile as well. That leaves just one more family who we hope to visit this afternoon or maybe tomorrow. We've been blessed with wonderful neighbors this year and half in Santiago and will miss them when we leave.
Now the kids are sprawled out on the futon for rest time, watching the classic version of Annie and adding their own commentary in the funny parts. They are sooo tired because we visited with friends after church last night and didn't get home until around 1 a.m.! Yes, I know we should have been packing but this is Christmas after all ... :)
So as we have wished so many today, I now wish all of you who might happen to stop by the blog today or tomorrow a muy Feliz Navidad ... a very Merry Christmas ... celebrating the Christ child of Christmas!
