finally sleeping soundly after a wakeful night
It's Saturday evening, our third night home with Owen since his accident. Hopefully three times is a charm because the nights have not been too restful, to say the least! Owen seems to be most uncomfortable at night. The cast simply doesn't allow for any movement on his part and he is not able to even sit up at this point. During the day he does okay. Kids' movies do wonders to take his mind off his current situation ... :)
But, he's been a trooper. His hospital experience was of course a difficult one. As per the story of our life here in Chile, when trying to draw blood in the ER the nurse had difficulty finding Owen's veins and kept drawing the needle in and out, in and out ... to the point where I was weeping along with my wailing son because I felt so bad for him. We love our hospital but were a little frustrated that they did not give him any pain medicine until two hours after our arrival, just before putting his leg in traction. (Once they did the latter, he had instant relief which was a wonderful blessing.) I do have to say that the traumatologist who set his leg was wonderful. He even met us down at x-rays first thing Thursday morning and gave me his personal cell phone number to have me call him after Owen was discharged to check on how he was doing at home. We will be seeing him on Thursday for another x-ray of the leg and to find out when Owen will need to return to have his leg re-set and casted again. Supposedly Owen will need to go under general anaesthesia again, but hopefully it can still be an outpatient procedure?? (Sometimes our insurance requires 24 hour hospitalizations in order for them to pay for things, so I'm not exactly sure, but I suppose we'll find out soon enough.)
The picture below was taken this afternoon when Owen's cousins came over for a visit and we took all the kids out in front of the house. Our neighbors stopped by to visit with Owen while we were out there and I thought he would enjoy the change of scenery, but he wasn't very comfortable and soon wanted to return inside. Oh well! He enjoyed the goodies his cousins brought for him, though ... and Mommy enjoyed the adult company, too. Thank you so much for praying for us during this time of nursing our little guy back to health. We truly appreciate it!
