Slice of Life: School Shifts

After reading my last post, I got to thinking about some questions it might possibly raise for some people ... For instance, if both our pastor and his wife are teachers, why would they work from 8 am to 8 pm?? ... And/or, what do other people do with their kids if midweek prayer meeting is so late?? Do children simply not attend??

The simple answer is this: In Chile there are two school "shifts" - the morning shift, and the afternoon shift. The reason our pastor and his wife work from 8 am to 8 pm is because they teach both shifts. (Their twin daughters attend the afternoon shift at the wife's school, and the three of them leave for home together after 8 o'clock each evening.)

Recently I was talking with another mom at church who does attend midweek with her daughter, and she explained that her daughter can sleep in all she wants because she attends the afternoon shift at school. Afternoon school creates a whole different schedule for families. I find it rather fascinating ... yet another "slice of life" here in this land of Chile!

So does SCA do the 2 shifts or do your kids go to a different school. That is so cool. My kids would love the second shift! The love to sleep in. :)
