Remember the issues we were having with getting the proper documents for our car due to the “three little sticks” after Pedro’s name (as the guy from Registro Civil described it?)
Remember that this same guy was going to personally go downtown and see the issue through?
Well, our Merry Christmas gift from Registro Civil was a formal letter telling us that our application had been denied and that we had to again appear in person to pursue proper documentation, which we did last week.
We went to Registro Civil, where we were handed the rejected papers and told to go to the same notary who had originally handled the documents back in early September. We drove there, took our number (30-something, and they were only on 80-something of the current round … it was a zoo!) and waited. After awhile, someone took pity on us and gave us their number 9 which scooted us ahead a bit. Finally we were called up to the desk.
The clerk had me explain the situation several times before disappearing to see the notary hidden in a back office. She went back and forth between his office and her computer while we continued to wait somewhat patiently. (Oh, I forgot to mention that we had the great idea of doing this with all three kids in tow so we also had to monitor their activities in the tiny cramped office full of dozens of people!)
In the end, the wait was worth it because she typed a succinct but very detailed explanation on the back of the original document which said that Pedro Garcia III and Pedro Garcia were one and the same person, and that all information in the document that pertained to the one also pertained to the other! We then returned to Registro Civil, turned in a copy of the amended document, and were assured that we should have our car’s “padrón” by the end of the week.
Still no sign of it, but we’re getting really good at this waiting game …
