The Cueca is the national dance of Chile and an important part of the Fiestas Patrias celebrations. As the country prepares to celebrate its Independence Day on September 18, many schools and other groups organize folkloric events highlighting Chile’s traditional dress, food, and dances.
One particular element of these events is often a Cueca dancing competition. Since Isabel and her cousin Matias have been learning the Cueca at school in preparation for their celebration this coming Friday, they wanted to join the fun at Sunday’s picnic! They were so cute, and even though they were a little overwhelmed by the other dancers they stepped out and tried their best. Jenn and I were laughing so hard, I could hardly hold the camera but still managed to get some adorable pictures … Enjoy!
