Father/Son Camping Trip

On Sunday afternoon, Pedro and Owen left for their long-anticipated father/son camping trip on a nearby beach.

They set up camp near the water's edge, with the beautiful Pacific Ocean on one side and the dramatic, dry Atacama Desert on the other.

I love the picture below. It looks "photoshopped" but it isn't. Doesn't it make for a really cool perspective? Owen looks like a giant with the car and camp behind him.

While my guys preferred a more isolated camp, according to Pedro there was quite a lively encampment not far away. He said they even had a concert going on pretty loudly! Camping on the beach is a very popular activity around here.

Hot dogs barbecued on an outdoor bonfire, yum! Owen looks like he is enjoying the adventure of a night on the beach with Daddy.

The next morning's activity, per Owen's request, was to climb the "mountain" behind their campsite. This picture was taken at the beginning of their trek.

This looks as though Owen is traipsing through miles of barren wasteland. The desert really does have its own rugged beauty.

See the blue car at the center of the photograph below? Owen and Daddy made it quite a ways up the mountain!

And here you can see how high they finally got. The blue car is just a speck down below! Pedro says they didn't quite conquer the mountain before petering out, but they definitely gave it their best try. They have plans to make it to the top next time. :)

I love that Owen and Pedro were able to share this experience. Hopefully it will be the first of many more father/son camping adventures. Perhaps we girls will even give it a try one day!
