We hurried through the double doors and took our place in line at the cafeteria-style restaurant of our local supermarket, shushing the kids as they scampered around the tables and chairs in anticipation of one of their favorite hot lunches. Suddenly the noise level increased and we turned to observe them swarming another family at their table - our new friends, M. and E. and their two sons (one of whom is Eva's classmate in school.)
M. works a 7 x 7 shift at an area mine (7 days on, 7 days off) and had just gotten off work and joined his family. We greeted one another but tried to keep the kids at a distance so their family could enjoy their first meal together after another week apart. Even so, we were encouraged to run into them because we have enjoyed having them over to our house once and their reciprocating with a cookout at their place shortly before Christmas. On our last visit, they asked several questions about our faith and we are praying for this might be the year that they discover a personal relationship with Jesus Christ!
It was a big surprise to run into them again just a day or so later, in the midst of thousands of celebrants at the waterfront on New Year's Eve. Pedro and I couldn't help smiling at each other as we thought, "This is no coincidence!" We truly believe God has been crossing our paths for a reason.
This past Saturday we ran into E. once again. She was at the mall with her sons and mother-in-law, and we stopped to chat for several minutes. After the mall, we ran into the grocery store for a few quick items and who do you think we saw?? This time, even she laughed and said, "This is not a coincidence! God does things for a reason."
I couldn't help but laugh as well. "Yes, He does," I agreed. "Yes He does."

P.S. Tonight after I wrote this post I went to the grocery store. I was leaning over the ice cream display when E. nudged me from behind and said, "Hey, cut this out!" True story! :)
