I Can Because I'm Black

Isabel was trying to read a handwritten notebook page last night in the car. "I can't, it's too dark!" she lamented.

Owen piped up with a quick response. "I can, because I'm black!" he announced.

Unsure as to whether I had heard him correctly I asked, "What did you say, Owen?"

"I can, because I'm black!" he repeated.

"What do you mean?" I was very curious as to what was going on in his little mind, especially considering that he doesn't even know the alphabet yet!

"I can read in the dark!" he assured me, "Because I'm dark!"

Ahhh ... There you have it! :)

How funny and curious and wondrous the reasoning of our children! Thanks, Steph, for sharing and exploring this sweet young mind. Our days shall prove never dull and always adventurous, yes? I love to view the world through a child's eyes, like you do. We are kindred spirits, my daughter.
