I spent a couple of hours with just my girls today.
No cell phone. No computer. No television. (But there was ice cream!)
I saw them giggle and play and tease and frown and smile at one another as they scampered around a small play area outdoors under the gray sky and brisk breeze.
They were the sunshine.
I watched them carefully choose flavors and exclaim happily when their sundaes were delivered with rainbow sprinkles on top. I smiled when they shared bites with one another and with me. I listened as they answered my questions about our upcoming move and how it made them feel. I heard them say it would be sad to leave their cousins and friends.
But we have each other. This made us all feel better.
I agreed to drive home with Daddy’s coffee and then back again for more time playing outside. I smiled as they briefly met new acquaintances and rode the merry-go-round together. I hugged them when they tumbled off or scraped a finger.
It was a great day just for girls, or so they said.
I think they were right.
