Being on the "wrong side of Dodge" at 11 p.m. on the night before September 11th in Chile is not really a good idea.
I found myself in just such a predicament this evening while returning from a small gathering to celebrate the birthday of a friend from church. I suppose the two police vehicles with sirens and lights blaring, driving the wrong way down a one-way street, should have been fair warning. (By that point I had already figured out that I had definitely taken a wrong turn, as the houses and apartments grew increasingly run-down and the highway was nowhere in sight!)
But it wasn't until I tried to turn around and found my road blocked with several piles of burning tires that I really started to get worried. I decided that if the police could drive the wrong way down a one-way road, so could I ... after all, what else are hazard lights for?? (I also decided that my friend's stolen spare tire from the night before must have had a short-lived freedom!)
Thankfully I was able to quickly put some distance between myself and the demonstrators, but the experience left me a little jittery. It just so happens that all day today I have been wearing this blood pressure cuff that reads my BP every 20 minutes; of course, it activated shortly after the great adventure. Do you suppose the doctor will take into account these exciting events when evaluating how high my results are from tonight?
At any rate, home never looked so good and my bed is now calling my name. Thanking the Lord once again for His loving protection!
