So tonight we make a run to McDonald's to pick up some of the kids' favorite junk food for Family Night. On the way back, we find ourselves driving down "dreaded" Tobalaba (dreaded by me, because it's pretty much a two-lane road forced into four lanes so that it feels like we are playing chicken the entire way home!) To make matters worse, we run into a paving crew which means that our pseudo two lanes are merged into one. A huge bus wants in and since he is bigger than us, Pedro gives him the right of way. But he doesn't offer the same favor to the middle-aged lady who tries to hurry her car around the one lane and push in ahead of us ... and apparently, she doesn't take graciously to being reminded of the rules of the road!
(Clarification: Pedro did not honk, or give her nasty looks, he just simply didn't let her in because she was trying to get around merging like everyone else.)
A little ways up ahead, the road opens again and we find ourselves coming to a stop in the left lane of a line of cars. Lo and behold, the same red car pulls up beside us on the passenger side. The seemingly harmless gray-haired lady rolls down her window and begins yelling (in Spanish, of course): "Hey $@#$% you tried to !@#$% me and now I'm !@#$#% you!" Next thing we know, there is a fist slamming the window next to my six-year old daughter's head! It's the husband, yelling: "What is wrong with you?! Don't you see my wife is an invalid?!" as he slaps his hand, hard, against the window yet again.
Okay, so does anyone but me see a problem with this? (1) First and foremost, it was the lady who wasn't following the rules of the road, not us; (2) If she is an invalid, than what business does she have driving anyway; (3) Why in the world would a caring husband make his invalid wife do the driving during rush hour; (4) What kind of jerk slams his hand on a child's window and scares her and her siblings half to death??
Luckily for us, the light changed and we left the irate husband standing in the middle of the busy intersection while we made our way home without further incident. The kids were dumbfounded: "Why did he do that?" "Why didn't you say anything?" "What was wrong with him?" Could be a lot of fun answers to those, but ours were along the lines of (1) Practical: He was really mad and it's better not to talk with someone who is that mad; (2) Spiritual: Quoting "A soft answer turneth away wrath"; (3) Common Sense: It's not really a good idea to get into a fight with someone in the middle of a busy road.
Definitely a Family Night to remember!

Never a dull moment; huh??? At least the kids did not ask what the naughty words were that he was saying! :-)
I think if I was the wife I would be cursing at my husband for calling me an invalid in front of other people!!! :-)

I'm sorry...but I'm wiping away tears b/c your post made me laugh so hard...
YIKES!!! That would be scary! Glad you were able to get away from him.
Thank goodness the light changed. I wonder if he thought that he actually accomplished anything?
