These Are the Joys

Following the sound of childish play
Outside to the shaded front yard;
I see three young children enjoying the day
Giggling and playing so hard!

I pause for a moment to drink in the joy
Of watching my daughters and son;
Of hearing the laughter of two girls and boy,
Remembering when there had been none.

With humor their stories and games are imagined,
With teasing their playtime is filled.
Joking and make believe float on the wind,
While car rides and castles they build.

This sweet fleeting moment will soon slip on by,
Remembered only in passing.
Three children who answered my question of “why” –
Fill our home with joy, everlasting.
