Today, Owen started his new school! He will be going Mon-Wed-Fri mornings and he is very excited. In fact, it was really hard to get a still picture of him before school ... notice the bottom picture where he is dancing in a circle!
Normally, we would not have started him until March when the new school year begins but in the month of January the jardin* is offering special workshops. Each day the children can choose between art, music, theater, and other fun activities. This is the same jardin that Owen's cousin Micah attended this past year. January is Micah's last month before he starts a new pre-school in March, so we thought it might be a good idea to transition Owen while the two of them could still be there together.
We started each of our kids in a Pre-K program a few mornings a week when they turned three years old, and although Owen is not quite three he is very independent and loves spending time with his peers - even playing on a level with kids a little older than he is. The director of this jardin also happens to be the wife of one of our Chilean pastors, so we feel like he is in a safe and healthy environment (not to mention that soon he'll be coming home speaking Spanish!)
*jardin = a childcare facility that is half daycare, half pre-school; in Chile the jardin prides itself on being education-based for all ages
