A Prayer for My Children

Some time ago, my mother-in-law shared with me a list that she uses to pray for each of her children and their families. It included 31 Biblical virtues, one for each day of the month. I later obtained a copy of the list with the author’s name, Bob Hostetler, and found the list online. You can read it for yourself using the link below:

As I was praying for my children this morning, the idea for a poem came to mind. I thought I would share that here as well.

A Prayer for My Children

Father, I pray for my children today
As they walk out through that door.
Help me to see that You hold their hands
Because You love them, even more

Than I, their mother, can understand.
Your grace is upon their lives.
And when they have passed outside my sight,
They are still before Your eyes.

Keep them safe as they study and play,
Teach them to use their mind
For an instrument to learn, to dream, to grow –
As new truths they are sure to find.

May they enjoy both friendship and fun.
Help them to show love,
Kindness, respect and obedience –
Yes, all the traits from above.

Father, I pray for my children today
As they walk out through that door.
Protect them and keep them and guard their hearts
For the future You have in store.
