Hide Your Eyes

Pedro shared with me that he and Mark saw a pedestrian accident this morning on the way to the kids’ school, apparently just after it happened. The police were on site but no emergency vehicles, and according to Mark the pedestrian was lying in a pool of blood on the side of the road.

Apparently the children did not see anything, for which I am ever so grateful. It seems like there are so many things we need to hide their eyes from as we drive around the city. This is the second pedestrian accident they’ve passed on the way to school, although this one was much worse.

Even more common than accidents are the billboards and photos of scantily-clad (or even completely unclad) people. Thankfully, these often are missed by the kids as they are talking or playing together in the car. But last night Owen caught sight of one and immediately commented: “Daddy! That guy take his clothes off!”

As parents, we desperately want to protect our children’s innocence and purity, while the enemy wants to undermine those efforts in every way he can. So if you think of it, please pray that God will hide our children’s eyes and protect their hearts in these situations where filth is in plain sight!

“I will set nothing wicked before my eyes …”
Psalm 101:3
