This article addresses the worsening situation in Sudan, where in Darfur alone 200,000 people have reportedly been killed and 2.5 million displaced since 2003.
According to the article, "The conflict in Darfur began in 2003 when ethnic African tribes revolted against the Arab-led Khartoum government. The government is accused of unleashing Arab militiamen known as janjaweed who have been blamed for widespread atrocities ... The United States has described the rapes, killings and other attacks as genocide ..."
Pray for the children who have been orphaned and who have seen horrors that they will never forget. Pray for the wives without husbands, the sons without fathers, the grandchildren without grandparents. Pray for the men and women who minister food, medical care, and the Word of God to those who have lost their homes and their livelihood. Pray even for those soldiers who in the darkness of their souls believe they are committing these atrocities in the name of their god. And finally, pray for us, the American Christians with our comfortable homes, well-stocked pantries, and padded church pews ... that our hearts might be broken for our brothers and sisters who suffer in Sudan and around the world. I write this to myself as much as to anyone who might read this blog ...

I saw Owen's face in the faces of the children you posted from Sudan. I praise God for bringing him to you. What a blessed little boy he is. God is going to great and mighty things through his life. love you! Julie
I've been reading about the situation over there to this week Steph and it just breaks my heart in two. Those poor children who only know violence. Those broken men who can not protect their families from it. The woman who work desparately everyday to hold their families together. Such sadness. :(
