Child So Precious

There is a little girl I have never met, but who I think about almost every day. I do not know her real name; in fact, I don't think she has a "real" name just yet. What I do know about her is that she is a 24-week preemie born in late July, and right now the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit is her home. (It probably will be for several more months.)

I also know that she is waiting for her "forever family." Why not us? you might ask. I asked the same thing, but right now we simply don't fit the specifications of what the adoption agency is seeking in a family for this special baby girl.

So, I just pray. It breaks my heart to think of her without a Mommy or Daddy coming to hold her and sing to her and love her. But then I remember that she does have a Daddy ... a Heavenly One! ... who holds her in His arms even now. He knows every hair on her head (or if she even has any!) and hears every beat of her tiny heart. He knows her future. And He loves her, even more than her "forever family" ever can or ever will.

This poem, entitled "Child So Precious," I wrote for that baby girl.

Child So Precious

Child so precious, so frail and so small -
Yet you are a jewel, fairest of all.

Your Father in Heaven crafted your form;
Each tiny finger, your cheeks soft and warm.

With the gentlest of touches He smoothed your soft brow;
Even your breath of life, He did endow.

Not only did He take the time to make you,
But from the beginning He also did choose

Just the right family of which you’ll be a part;
A mother and father who hold you in their heart.

So sleep, little one, rest and grow strong -
And I pray that your wait will not be for too long.

Without having seen you or knowing you’re here,
Your mother and father hold you ever so dear –

And each day they look up to their Father above,
Asking Him to watch over the daughter they love

Until your paths meet and the waiting is done …
Because, child so precious - you are the one!

That makes me sad as well. I hope that the nurses or someone is giving her extra special love every day!!
